Juneau is the capital of Alaska and one of the first surprises of our trip was that you can't drive to it. You can fly or ferry but not drive to it. We arrived a couple of days before the cruise and had very low clouds, rain, fog and all of those cool things that desert rats like us really love. Unfortunately, on the day we had a helicopter flight to land on glaciers planned, all flights were grounded. But being the desert denizens we are, we ran out into it and drove the full length of the coastal road north and south of Juneau and on the neighboring Douglas Island.
