(Hanging Lantern)

Starting at Bride's Pool (not much to mention here since it's was quite dry) in the New Territories we headed straight for our only hill/mountain ascent for the day, Tiu Tang Lung (literally means Hanging Lantern).  Though only 416m, I was glad that this was the only ascent that we did, however, once at the top it the  panoramic view of Hong Kong's Northen Islands as well as Shenzhen - China was well worth the heart burning sensation.  Which is quite ironic as Tony pointed out that few years back you would see urban development on the HK side of the border and wilderness on the other.  Now, it's the other way around, we are now in the wilderness (all the animals came back to this side of the border) and the other side really looks like Hong Kong with all the tall buildings.

 

Next up was the village at Fung Shui Woodlands - creepy tree roots that you can swing on (not "permitted" now), hollowed out trees and spine looking paths.  We then headed to the border that if you apparently set foot in the water you would be committing an offence as we would be on the cross border boundary.  Though it does provide a very nice sunset.  :)

 

All up a nice hike but it did ended up taking seven and a half hours, mozzie bites galore (even with insect repellent), and a serious case of sun burn (forgot the sunscreen lotion).
