Santa Barbara Castle (Alicante)

Castillo de Santa Bárbara (or Santa Barbara Castle) dominates Alicante city sitting on top of mount Benacantil (166m) built sometime probably in the 16th century.  Taking the long route (ie the not-so-steep way) via the southern wall I wind my way up along the ridge to the castle proper.  This route provides spectacular views of the city as well as a means to build up your anticipation as the castle comes looming over you.  At the top are panoramic views of the city as well as the steep cliff down to the fabulous beach below.
