2nd July 20051000 metres up on the side of the impressive Mount Agung (3142m), also known as the "Mother Mountain", is Pura Besakih (funny enough, also known as the "Mother Temple"). It's not actually one temple, but really a complex of twenty three separate but related temples. The most important and central one being Pura Penataran Agung.Having dodged the very annoying and persistent "tour guides" and their scams we make our way around the temple (as foreigners are not allowed in the actual complex). Most striking about these temples, compared to the rest of Asia, are the impressive split gateways, and the multi-roofed towers.
