14th April 2003 to 15th April 2003Our hike begins from Birethanti through to Ulleri where we stay over night and continue the next day to Ghorepani (just before we "summit" Poon hill). For anyone that hasn't done this trip before, it's not as rough and tough as one might think. You can have a guide (recommended) and porter(s) (very recommended) to carry your stuff - up to 40kgs per porter. Plus the part of the Jomsom trek that we went on goes through a number of small and large villages that sell cooked food (ie breakfast, lunch and dinner) albeit a lot of vegetarian fried rice and various drinks included soft drinks like coke.In terms of scenic view, this first part of the trip isn't that spectacular, as most of the time you are walking up hill though a trek that winds around trees and shrubs (plus a lot of dung). Though the view from Ulleri isn't bad as you can see where you hiked day before. Once we did make it to Ghorepani we managed to get a cooked meal with roast chicken, plus we where quite lucky as it just started to rain on us and then hail on us.
