16th April 2003Seeing sun rise at the top of Poon Hill (3100m) entails getting up at 4am in the literally freezing morning to head up to the top of Poon hill. Unfortunately our group started a wee bit later then we wanted to, and being the designated photographer (only because I had two cameras and a tripod with me), I was urged to walk as fast as I could (ie run) up the rest of the hill (around 400 metres). Once there *puff* *puff*, I got to the top of the tower and stood freezing my butt off whilst waiting for the last few minutes before false dawn hit, and then all was forgiven as the magnificent sun rises over the Annapurna ranges. Definitely the best sun rise I've seen (mount Kinabalu a close and similar second), the photos just do not do them justice.
