Calculations of AISC Bolting Design

Required tightening moment - determined by the prestress force and affected by
the friction factor in threads between the nut and bolt, and by the friction factor
in the contact surface of the nut or bolt. Bolt value is the strength of the bolt.
Strength of bolt is taken as the minimum value of the following.
(Shearing strength in a bolt. Bearing strength in a bolt. Tensile strength in a bolt.)
The shear strength of all bolts = shear strength of one bolt x number of bolts •
The bearing strength of the connecting / connected plates can be calculated
using equations given by AISC specifications.
