Pictures from Volcanos National Park in Hawaii. As this trip the lava could not quite reach the ocean, instead we sought some closer views of the flows that were there to be found...
On this particular day, reaching Lava involved a mile and a half hike first over the remains of a road cut off by the lava, then the lava field itself. The park service kindly marks a trail for those seeking the lava, and also has many warnings about safety.
While shooting the Lava, we ran across some very helpful people who were "Lava Junkies" and came to view the lava all the time. They were very helpful in getting safely closer to the lava, although somehow I did manage to have the leg of one tripod melt through the rubber foot! Happily I had very sturdy hiking boots with tougher rubber, that never showed signs of heat.
