Sunday September 8, 1996 Prairie Creek/Clearwater/Red Deer River

Robt. and I float the last stretch of Prairie Creek, down to the Clearwater, thence down to the 75Z bridge. Both streams are low, slow & clear, but not much happening, even tho Good #’s of BWO’s on Prairie. Robt. gets a small brown on GR Hare’s Ear on Prairie. We do find a school of big carp on the Clearwater, and I land one, miss another on a little pink “Dynomite”. We then head down to the Red Deer, wait out a thunderstorm, I get a couple of real nice fish up past the bells (3 ½ #’s or so), Robt. does me one better with a 22 ½”, 4 # brown (all on Elk Hair Caddis). Robt. and I both also get one smaller fish. Find one of Bob S’s fly boxes on the bank!
Note: Bob sez he caught a 30” brown! On Saturday night. The mighty fish apparently slapped him at one point, thereby dislodging the fly box….
Note: John S. was out on Sunday at about 10:30 a.m., describes heavy hatch of BWO’s around noon, best action around 3-4 p.m. He goes 1 for 6; his buddy Eric gets 3 fish on Mepps-type spinner with furry body….
