Well, the weatherfolks were a bit off on this one... at one time the forecast for today in Calgary according to Environment Canada was for a high of +17! Even Accuweather had predicted a high of +8, but as confirmed by the stats below, it never got much above +3 or so (even less at the airport). Ah well, the wind today was almost non-existent, and the sun did come out in the late p.m., so all in all not too bad for late October on the prairies. We leave town about 6:30 a.m., and have breakfast at the Chinese restaurant in Carseland... excellent Hamburger Steak and Eggs! On the chilly but clear water at Johnson's Island by 10:30 or so. The fishing action is pretty steady on the usual suspects. There are a few sporadic risers here and there, but not much bug activity on the surface. Glenn, often using a white beadhead Bugger, holds the hot hand today; as an example, at some point Frank is trying out Glenn's 8 wt., and he hands Glenn the rod to reel in. Glenn does, and there is a nice rainbow attached to the other end. I'm pretty sure that nobody landed anything on dries. Total fish landed = 14 give or take, and I account for only 1 of those :-) Frank and Rob have wader leakage issues:-( On the way home, it's the traditional stop at Wendy's in Airdrie for burgers, fries and frosties. Some Budweisers are also consumed today, leading to an outbreak of methane release on the drive home... whew! Roll down that window! Back in Red Deer by 9:30 p.m.
Great posts guys! Some really cool storys and some great photos.
I noticed you have been fishing Whirling diease infected waters and going to WD free waters. WD reduced rainbow trout populations in the states by 90% and is very harmful too any fishery. It can live 30 years in dried mud and finds felt wading boots a perfect home. I hope you are and were bleaching your waders when going from infected to uninfected waters. Being an Albertan it would be sad to see the crow, ram, and bow have only 10% of the raibow populations they do now...
Again great storys but remember bleach you felt soles!
