Quite a day. Tar & I skip work, head south. Start out down from Highway 3 bridge, and nail 3 good ‘bows (16-18”) in first hour or so. Take another nice bow up from bridge (real nice stretch!) – then run into Randy Tomick (cameraman) down from Lundbreck campground. He’s doing underwater filming of spawning rainbows (see photos) – quite awesome – scores of large trout in the spawning beds – redds clearly visible (first for me!). Try the old “annoyance streamer” tactic – lose a couple, actually snag about 6 lb. football on way out with Marabou Streamer. Fish gets off, but huge! Check horseshoe bend stretch, take 1 more 12” ‘bow (all fish so far taken on Montana Stone 4-6) – switch to Rick’s Mink and get a small whitefish. Check Lees Lake @ sundown, but pretty quiet – a few good fish rising sporadically. Too bushed to try the float tube – retire to watch Leafs v. San Jose. Fine, hot, mostly calm day.
