Since last Monday, we had some serious snow – a blizzard, in fact, and it appears to have stopped the salmonflies dead in their tracks since I see only a few adults on Qually’s stretch this Monday p.m. However, the fish are definitely in tune – seems like I’m getting action everywhere you’d expect it. Start about 4:00, miss the “bridge fish” on my 3rd cast (an omen!). Indeed, the fish are chasing the Elk Hair Salmonfly in fine form – my only problem is (a) catching them, (b) landing them – end up 4 for 20, lose a couple of good fish - 60° water. Run into Doug Dewitt @ Haagsma’s (along with Sybil the Doberman, who takes up with me – I subsequently catch and release the dog). Bruce Biegler here over the weekend, so I had to get out today. Excellent action – felt like the North Ram! Nothing stupendous insect wise, a few mayflies about. I actually see 3 or 4 fish rising to naturals!
