Salmonflies starting to happen!! Scammell spotted husks last Wednesday, lots of husks in evidence on Haagsma & Stretch today, plus a few in the air and one the water. Run into Robert and Ken (where else) – seems it’s been so-so last couple days, though Robert got 21” ‘er at downstream bridge section. Ken’s managed his usual respectable numbers, but nothing of size, apparently. Not much happening for surface action, miss a good fish on stonefly nymph. I head down to Scammell’s tie on Elk Hair Salmon, and get about an hour’s worth of great action. Land 2 nice browns at head of Scammell’s rock garden (approx. 18” and 16” – one has big scar on back – see photos) then get lots of looks and bumps, from some serious fish up through the next rocky section. That’s it though, quiet up to Qually’s after that (although this section admittedly fished hard today). Should be wild next week or so.
