Great day! Didn’t look great, showers yesterday and today, so desultory start up from B for W bridge – remember dropper nymph – lo and behold, it works. First on nymphs on Stauffer, I think – use Royal Wolff and little Prince nymph – go 9 for 13 or so – 6 on the nymph, and decent sized trout for the N. Raven on nymphs, little guys take the dry – one little guy seems to be giving me extra fight – notice a 2nd trout on nymph. My first double. Get up to Moore’s place (now the Lazy M), then head back and over to check out Clear Creek – it’s now much smaller – but also much quicker – still a lot of silt and not much cover – also stir up 3 Sandhill Cranes. Then over to Prairie – Graf’s – good PMD hatch happening – put some down at first, miss one, then spot nice fish on far bank sipping PMD’s without fear. Put on #12 (big!) PMD – nice cast if I do say so – voila – beauty 12” ‘er – head back down to old bridge – catch a whitefish and mess around with couple other fish. Couple of big browns rising in the big pool at winter’s cabin – can’t fool them – they’re in a back eddy and are quite safe. Am watched by 11 mule deer (@ 100 yards) on walk back out.
