Had been thinking of a scouting trip to the Bow, but Country Pleasures sez “Fergit it – high and muddy except up higher – Canmore” – so, let’s go West. Fine sunny morning – scattered showers in p.m. North Raven even is high and brown as high up as E/W bridge – Prairie is high and brown at Qually’s off to Twin Lakes – chat with Ron Manz who’s out with his kids, dog and drift boat (“Slocum drifter” – clockacraft knockoff made in Alberta – on of 6 apparently) – “by the book” evening at Twin – wind goes down at dusk – loads of midges – clusters! Plus some caddis – earlier on I get a sold take on black wooly bugger, trolling and switching – 3 or 4 leaps later and decent rainbow is gone. Nothing I try fools the picky dusk risers – must try “cluster” of midges on long leader next time.

Weather notes: May, 1995 – definitely on the cool side. Very few days over 10-12º.
