June 4, 1994

Date: Saturday, June 4, 1994
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Species: Rainbow Trout
Bow River
Water Temp/Time: Air Temp/Time:

Peak Activity for this day: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Float the Bow with Robert and Glen Strong! Glen’s friend Blair Fry loans us his Mackenzie drift boat, we leave town @ 6:00 a.m., put it @ MacKinnon Flats. Water looking pretty good, but ominous clouds all around us. I get some great action at first place we stop; innocuous looking run but I hook, play and lose three good sized, reel-screaming hard running rainbows in about 1st 15 minutes, all on San Juan Worm! Wow, we thought, here we go! Land a good one a little further up, and another @ tail end of island. Robert loses one on stonefly nymph. I lose another before we set sail again. Rain starts about noon – heavy rain for about 4-5 hours – although I hook three more good ‘bows at next stop, hook and lose another from the boat. Hugh PMD hatch, but no obvious risers until quiet water @ Carsland where Robert lands nice 17” ‘bow. Glen’s casting is improving. Beautiful late evening, scenery, birdlife magnificent. Great day, must do it again…
