Another rainy, windy, overcast day with occasional sunny breaks – arrive approx. 11:30, and while we’re on Golden Pond until 7, we spend much of the day waiting for the fish to start feeding, which never really happens. So… I tie on a Bitch Creek nymph, and lo & behold, it’s taken by a nice 16” ‘er at the head of the narrows (OK, 15 ¼” to the fork of its tail), then, I lose another in the same spot. Later catch a brookie and a 12” ‘bow lower down – again on a Bitch Creek. As it turns out, I cast nary a dry fly all day, simply a weighted BCN, no lead, no strike indicator, on a previously ginked 9’ 3x leader. Robert has an off day, Kenneth catches one on a dry fly. Misses a 15” ‘er a few times (on BCN) – all in all, river seems about 2 weeks behind last year.
