Day breaks hot, clear & windy. In the morning, we try the “Horseshoe Bend” stretch of the Crow – I go 0 for 15, Ken manages a few on nymphs (uses spinning gear for better control), Gold Ribbed Hare’s ear. A great stretch, and the Gov’t mitigation efforts actually don’t look bad and do work. Try the “Hillcrest” part in the afternoon, I get a little one, Ken catches a 13 ½” ‘er & a few smaller. Back to the Horseshoe Bend for the evening, and things start to happen about 9:00 p.m. Good numbers of Pale Duns about, so I tie one on and go 14 for 34, including 3 fish in the 12-14” range, several 8-10” fish as well – great fight & acrobatics. Some guy takes 4 good fish in the big pool nearest the road in about ½ hour. Off day for Robert, - 0 for 2. Guy at the pool kills all 4 fish – sez he was using BWO. Ken gets another 4 or so, 8” range. My best single of flyfishing so far. A great river… 58° water.
