We start out at about 10:30, check the stretch up and down from the “Dead End Road” near Hillcrest. Robert lands a nice 16” ‘er on a B.C. nymph, I miss fish on both a B.C. and a Royal Wulff, Ken misses one on a Grey Wulff – day starts out nice but clouds roll in; Robert & I head back to “Golden Pond” where Robert has a great afternoon (we start about 2:30) – first it’s a feisty 18” ‘er on a PMD, then we both have fish on (I also catch a 10” brookie), then Robert has a 15 minute fight with a beautiful 20”, 5 pound rainbow (caught on one of Jim Wiseman’s green drake emergers) – into the backing twice – all over the place, leaping like a salmon – great to see! Good #’s of PMD’s sporadically throughout the day (they seem to like cloud & rain) – I lose a 15” ‘er on a PMD; lose another decent fish on a B.C. nymph – a little later I catch a couple of smaller ‘bows on PMD’s.
Ken later reports that he fished the “Canyon stretch” down from Hillcrest – 12 fish to 15” on salmonflies, hoppers, etc.
Noticeable by their absence are the larger golden stones.
