Ken catches 30 brookies before breakfast from the float tube in Chinook Lake! Thence to the Moose Wallow, I head downstream from Allison Creek, work up. See lots of golden stone adults, PMD’s appear sporadically all day (heaviest around 2:30) but no real sustained hatch. Miss several on golden fluttering stone, elk hair salmon, manage one feisty brookie. Met with Ken and Robert at the Wallow – Ken’s best was 20” ‘er. Robert’s best so far a 14” ‘bow in upper stretch. Have knee knocking run in with big rainbow who snaps off my “PMD nymph” and then puts on aerial display, next cast I got snapped off by 16” ‘er! After supper, I fish the “Savanna” stretch. Lots of action on elk hair hopper – land 6 rainbows (up to 10”!) Robert has great story when we meet – seems that he a) caught beauty 20 ½” rainbow at the neck, with Bob Scammell (and camera) as a witness (on green drake), b) caught Scammell with #12 green drake, barbed, in the back! Bob’s ok after on stream surgery – ouch! I manage one more 10” ‘bow on PMD spinner – CWL de Canard – at the neck.
Later visit the “Michel Hotel” near Sparwood – sing karaoke with drunken bikers.
