Peak Activity for this day: early p.m.

The Moose Wallow! Not much happening when we arrive, a few PMD’s – it’s calm, but blue sky being rapidly threatened. I head up to the neck and spot 3 or 4 big ‘bows calmly slurping something. A few tries with Midge don’t work – so like a good guide I call Garth up, suggest he try a PMD. On about his 3rd cast, I see a fish turn back toward the by – now drowning PMD, I yell to Garth, who suddenly feels something big on the end of the line. Bit football leaps about 3’ in the air and takes a couple of strong runs – Garth trying to palm the Hardy on his new 7/8 wt. Berkeley fly rod! 5 minutes of thrashing later, we have the photographic proof – beauty 22” ‘er. Gord has gone downstream and misses the action. Thunderstorm moves in as I fish the nursery section, lots of PMD’s, no fish! Very few gold stone husks this far up. We check up Summitt Lake (both ends) and spot numerous large rainbows. Great lunch @ the Border Hotel, B.C. licences available @ Vic Bergman’s, $29.00! Back to the Wallow for dusk, but the wind just seems to increase – no luck in the whitecaps, and the wind howls all night long. No fishing Burmis Lake tonight.
