Peak Activity for this day:

First Float Trip! 2”+ of rain yesterday and more this morning. Have this beautiful river high and fast, with approx. 1’ visibility – too bad, because the quantity of salmonfly husks is unreal. Rod finds fistfuls of adults in the trees, but it’s apparently too cold for them to be flying around. Catch a batch of whitefish (8) on Prince nymph and Bitch “Crik” (as they say down here). Manage a couple of pretty Yellowstone Cutthroat on “Bottle Brush” (salmonfly) and Wooly Bugger. Also take nice rainbow on a streamer (you chuck it at the shoreline and trip it back). Some sun, some rain – Pam also catches a Whitefish on nymph! Pam also tries rowing the boat for a ways – a little scary. Don’t quite manage a brown to complete the “grand slam” but roll a good one over on Bow River Bugger. Must float the Bow one of these days. Anyway, a great way to conclude the “Montana Sampler” – back to Chico for the hot springs and a good meal.
