July 3, 1993

Date: Saturday, July 3, 1993
Time: 10:00 – noon and 1:00 – 3:00
Species: Rainbow Trout
Len’s Lake
Water Temp/Time: Air Temp/Time: 47º/3:00

Peak Activity for this day:

A new deal – float tubing for big rainbows (Rod landed a 7 ¼ lb. ‘blow 2 days ago) – private high mountain lake (approx. 15 acres) – photos taken by scuba divers prove existence of some real lunkers – use full sink line with muddler minnow; cast out almost entire line, wait, then strip it in. On about 4th cast, land 20” + rainbow, could be close to 4 lbs. Note that it’s 44º and pouring rain when we start, the rain never really lets up and it don’t get much warmer. Of course, my neoprenes are leaking badly but the fishing is great, if not in terms of numbers, in terms of quality. Land approx. 10 fish (Rod about the same – he’s using my old reel and borrowed 7 wt. rod). I may have had “moly” on at one point – felt like a lug but he shakes loose in the weeds). Apparently on warmer day, there can be good action on damselfly dries & nymphs. Fish landed are pretty much all goods ones, in the 18” – 20” range, and fat like footballs. Note Rod using “handline” (and getting a bump) after returning the borrowed rod.
