“Daytrip to the N. Ram” – with Robert; head downstream from white cabin. Bluebird day, river is changed, but in great shape. Start about 11 a.m. and go 3 for 9 in first ˝ hour (all under 10”), Robert about the same. Long walk downstream and things slow down – set by the second good pool for awhile on way back – catch a fat little cutthroat on a Bitch Creek Nymph – amazing! Robert & I both end up something like 7 for 25, altho he’s had the better fish, including a 16” ‘er. We head back about 7:00 and check out the stretch upstream from Forestry Trunk road, basically take a quick look @ the downstream pool and head to Ken Short’s camp (where we wait for 2 ˝ hours for Ken to show up!). In any event, a good day – Robert uses the old reliable #10 Green Drake all day long! I catch fish variously on Royal Trude, #10 Adams. There’s a few big golden stones about, a couple of Green Drakes, few pale morning duns – heavy mating flight of “Marsh Browns”? at dusk. Turns out Ken had a great day too – 50 cutthroat, including a number of fish in 15-18 range – he started at about 7 and got to within ˝ mile of the forks. Note reports from Ken & a horseman about mysterious bridge to nowhere above the forks. Apparently some guy managed to drive in with a ˝ ton. Note Ken’s praise of the “Brown Wulff”. Must order a few.
