Peak Activity for this day:
With Doug Wood, Ken Short, Walter, Ernie, Paul and Joe – Guide Kenzie Cuthbert with asst. Frank – all on the totally blown out Cowichan River (shoulda been there last week!). Day one I’m the only one of group to land a fish (16” brown), Day two I land 8 (6 browns, 2 ‘bows, incl. a couple of nice browns (4 lbs?)). Nobody else lands a fish!? (except Guide Kenzie with 3 browns). Mind you we’re all in a mile stretch of old channel that’s clear. Guides do the best they can – very unorganized trip. I can see where longer larger fly rods necessary to duplicate “dink float” method used by the pros. Day three Kenzie loses 13# steelie, Doug actually lands a 10# ‘er. Ken gets 22” brown at Letort Hopper, I manage one more nice brown. Fly du jour? Pink Glo-Bug Egg (Kaufmann’s) must try on the Crown/Bow sometime. Must also do the steelhead thing again.
