December 6, 2007 --- Ascension Bay, Mexico

Day Four dawns bright and early (we're on the water by seven), and it looks like another bluebird day on Ascension Bay. Garry joins us today, and we head over to the mainland shore to the south. We pull in on a scrubby mangrove beach, that happens to have a delightful firm sandy flat fronting it. Potro and Rob get dropped off, and we pull in a ways down. Rob gets a handful of bones, but Benito, Garry and I don't see too much, other than a couple of needlefish flying right up onto the beach to avoid a barracuda (then wriggling back into the water!). I do get a take on the tube lure from a nice 'cuda, but he comes undone right away. We join up, and drift the beachfront, and come upon some snook hunkered in under some driftwood, which they really like to do, and Rob and Garry both get one on the Enrico Puglisi tarpon patterns. After lunch we do some more walking and wading, and Benito and I get into a school of bones, and I pluck a bunch out of the herd on a little "Puff" pattern. Then it's back to the permit flat north of town, where I get one decent shot at a good sized permit, but I cast a bit too far and line him :-( ; also break off a bone from a school spotted while on the permit hunt. Garry picks up some nice bones along the way, and it's a fun day for all. Back to the casa for some guacamole by four today.
