Start out at “Highway Bend” downstream of East Hillcrest Bridge – lo, I have a nice acrobatic rainbow, 14” or so, on good ol’ Rick’s Mink (#14 weighted) nymph! Some real nice pools upstream; turns out to be a whitefish day – take 6 RMW’s over next couple of hours – all on same nymph – 9’ 6x leader. Only fly in ointment in presence of numerous other fishermen. Head down below falls in early p.m., more fishermen. Try stretch just above new lake – manage 1 more whitefish. Lots of close calls today, too. Tar getting worn out – note “tail gland” theory later proposed by Uncle Nick.
