According to the cabbie who picked us up at the airport, the winds have dropped off lately. Coulda fooled me; seems to be blowing a small gale. Wilber agrees with the cabbie, tho, so we're off to the tarpon flats toward the mainland. Apparently in higher winds, these flats get all muddy. Anyhow, we get our first shot within 5 minutes, and we continue to get shots about every half hour or so. The tarpon, however (who don't look scary big, maybe 15 - 40 lb. range?) are not the least bit interested in our offerings. Very cool style of fishing, tho --- often we stake out a spot along a channel and just wait - and often they will come, in schools of anywhere from 4 to 20 fish.. It's demanding fishing; long accurate casts in windy conditions are indeed required. Toward the end of the day, John gets a strike from a good fish, but a little too much line presure results in burned fingers, leading to slack, then lost fish. Wilbur gives me grief this a.m. re: "the breeze". Back at San Pedro, we have supper in a cool joint, "Fido's"; have a few drinks with some local Rasta types...
