"Ironside Pond Aeration Project

The Rocky Mountain House and Caroline areas have a limited number of lakes that provide, or have potential to provide fishing opportunities to recreational anglers. Lake fisheries including stocked put-and-take fisheries as well as lakes with self-sustaining fish populations are very popular and receive substantial angling pressure. The purpose of this project will be to redevelop a lake fishery that was supported in the past by repeated stocking but was not sustainable due to chronic winterkill. The primary objectives of this initiative are to increase and enhance recreational angling opportunities. A group of stakeholders including Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (ASRD) Staff, the Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) and several dedicated local volunteers from Trout Unlimited determined that Ironside Pond would be a good candidate for the next lake aeration project in the Rocky Mountain House - Caroline area"



Frank and I are on the water at about 9:30 a.m. Breakfast is with Ed at "Ricky's" in North Red Deer --- I give it a C+. It is a cool, calm Saturday morning in Central Alberta, and there are trout rising at Ironside Pond. As is evidenced by the EXIF data on the photos (note: timestamp is out by an hour), Frank has landed three fish within about ten minutes. His comment: "this is too easy!!" Naturally, we are now jinxed for the rest of the day, for the the most part :-) Frank does land another, and misses a few more. I LDR a nice fish, miss one other. No other fisherman around until we're heading out for the local TU fundraiser dinner at 4:30 or so.
