December 8, 1999 --- Faith River, South Island, New Zealand
Great night at the "Museum Hut" last night; good wine, porterhouse on the open hearth, etc. Cold and windy at dark, but the morning breaks clear and calm, but still cool. Much like yesterday, we see a lot of fish early, but they're quiet and not playing. After lunch, though, things pick up... find a player in the riffle... eight pounds, then a six and a six plus, then a seven and another eight pounder (hooked in the dorsal! = another downstream obstacle course run). More good spotting by Sherpa Bob. My goof of the day was another refusal to set the hook due to mistaking actual location of the fly :-( Final tally: fish 16, kms 5. Seems to be fish in every pool and riffle today; great spotting conditions. Note: six fish in the eight pound plus category over the last four days. Back to Hanmer Springs for supper at The Old Post Office. Christchurch tomorrow... another super trip.
