Bob gives my aching body a break after the strenuous hillclimbs of the past two days :-) We fish some resplendent high country lakes near Arthur's Pass. Lake Hawdon has rainbows. When we arrive it's dead calm, mayflies and caddis in good numbers. The lake is aquarium-like when the light is right. Early on, manage a brutish 'bow, but snap him off; later hook an even larger 'bow on EHC dry - big jump - into the backing - long, twisting, turning fight. Into the endgame when the tippet cuts just above the fly :-( Off we go to Lake Marymer, which holds brown trout, notwithstanding it's higher elevation. Get into a corner of the lake where I fool around with a squadron of massive browns; some close calls, brief hookups, lotsa shots, but no big fish to the net. Helluva day, and no big hills to climb!!
