Day Two dawns considerably brighter. After some discussion, we head back down into the Esk, at the confluence with Nigger Stream. The day turns overcast and windy; pretty tough spotting, but Bob spots a fish (that he later describes as "a beast") in a classic riffle. First cast... Bang! Gone! Lost to a windknot 4" below the strike indicator. Later land a nice rainbow blind fishing in a riffle. Back up the hill (yikes!), and that's the day. Back to "Kaikawaka" (the name of Bob's abode in the mountain village of Arthur's Pass) for BBQ'd beef and veggie skewers and superb hospitality.
