October 20, 2007 --- Oldman River and Crowsnest River, Alberta
On the road at about six, and by ten thirty we're fishin' the Oldman upstream from Hwy 22, after having stopped for breakfast at the Humpty's in Nanton ("Home of Hilarious Trucker Grafitti in Bathroom Stalls Last Cleaned in 2002"). It's pretty calm to begin with, and there are some early patches of sun. We nymph up some cutties and 'bows, and Glenn gets some good action on his patented white streamer. We bump into some young dudes (Maxwell and a bud/client?) who are fishing for bullies with big 'ol streamers, chucked from atop the big boulders in the river. By mid-afternoon we've decided to check out the Crow, and we fish the stretch up and down from the Bridge at Hwy 507. I head downstream to visit some pools I hadn't seen in many years, and was rewarded with fish from several. At dusk, we move up to the East Hillcrest Bridge. This time I go up, while Frank and Glenn go downstream. Frank has the hot hand, and he picks up a good bunch of 'bows, and a few more fishing behind Glenn :-) Standard nymphs/pupa patterns are the terminal tackle of choice. No fish on dries today, I don't believe. We get to a balmy high of about six degrees today, and the wind gusts to fifty km/hr. Supper is at the nice warm Rum Runner Restaurant in Coleman, and it is up to it's usual good standards. We bunk in at the BCMI motel in Blairmore.
