After bacon and eggs (excellent) at the gas station diner in Elkford, Wade and I hop into his friend's cool Polaris Ranger utility vehicle, which makes a fine platform from which to explore the nearby Elk River. Wade gets into an early Elk River Grand Slam, and I get into some decent sized bull trout in the afternoon. I nymph up some whities as usual, and Wade gets into a good number of cutties in the pm, mostly on an October caddis pattern. I manage a few m'self on dries, before we are rudely interrupted by a large adult grizzly bear at day's end. Wade did have some bear spray, but who really wants to test that stuff out. Wade first spotted the bear at about fifty yards, and it was within probably 100 yards from me. We made enuff noise to let it know we were there, and it ambled into the bush without incident. Supper is at "Marlin's" restaurant; despite being relatively deserted, they make a fine Ginger Chicken.
