Haven't had the old pontoon boat out in ages, and it's a fine fall Friday with nothing on the schedule, so I decide on a float from Fort Normandeau down to Mackenzie Trails. One thing I didn't quite factor in was the fact that low water levels and an upstream wind can make for very slow going. Add in a late start and the rowing muscles got a good workout to get to the takeout before dark. I am sticking with the troutspey today, and find a couple of decent runs to swing, but not many. I manage a 12" brown on a Zonker and a decent whitefish on a baby brown pattern. Share a run with a juvenile moose, after watching the spectacle while he's being chased around in the river by somebody's dog. Things settle down, and the moose and I are getting along fine until a sportjet roars by and spooks him out of the river and into the bush. See a few fellow fisherman here and there.
