First trip to the Bow this year! This is the year of the 200 year flood, and the river seems to be showing the effects. Aside from the physical changes, it is eerily void of insect life, at least to my eyes. It is a perfect day for flyfishing, warm (hot), but overcast and calm. Other than a few doinkers here and there, there is nuthin' happening on top. Mark, Peter and I put in at Mac and run up to the Highwood. See a couple walk and wade guys, but that's it. Nobody at the Highwood. In fact, very few fisherfolk around, despite it being a gorgeous holiday Monday. The river had hit about 1700 m3/s at Calgary in full flood; now it's down to high average numbers, about 125 or so. The water is very clear and no sign of any weedgrowth to speak of. We get a couple hits on the hopper, and land one 14" rainbow on the dropper, but that was it. On the way in, we take a look at the put-in at Hwy. 24. pretty rough, but doable; couple other jets were in. Some concern re: the restoration work being done at the Weir. Johnsons Island is still closed.
