We're down in the Siksika Nation Reserve with young guide Josh Nugent (bowrivercanada.com) who is affiliated with the folks at riverranche.com, who in turn have made an arrangement with the local Tribal Council for fishing access. Apparently fishing permits for the general public are no longer available at the Band Office in Gleichen? Anyhow, the fishing is steady if not spectacular, and we bring a couple dozen or more to the boat, almost all on streamers. Nuthin' on dries... Frank gets a nice brown on the dropper whilst fishing a hopper, but that's about as close as it gets. As always with the streamers, there are also plenty of follows, misses and short strikes as well. Good sized average fish, and Josh is hard working, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The big attraction to this piece of water from my standpoint is that for the most part, things look today more or less the way they did hundreds of years ago. Also, we see zero other boats, and one other friendly fisherman (a fellow fishing for pike with gear, at the Arrowwood bridge). On the water at 10:30 am, off at 9:30 pm. We see a spectacular semi-trailer crash on the way home (burgers at Wendy's in Airdrie), with the entire tractor unit engulfed in flames. Should have taken a photo!
