July 16, 2002 --- Raven River and Red Deer River, Alberta
Frank and I head west at about 4:30 p.m.; we head for what turns out to be Stoyberg's place on the Raven River on a hot, sunny day. We do some scouting, and actually find a few risers and a few PMD's. Tons of hoppers in the fields at the moment. Frank has had some success lately on a beetle pattern. We land a couple of purdy lil' (10"?) browns. At about 8:00, we head over to the Red Deer River at the Innisfail bridge. Conditions are prime --- 60 m3/s of cool clear water, and there are Brown Drake duns coming off at a pretty good rate. There are a fair number of rising brown trout, and we land a couple, 16" and 18". Frank has a couple come undone. Gorgeous conditions overall.
