April 17, 2009 --- Bow River, Alberta

Mark, Ken and I are on the road at about 8:30, and by 11:00 we are at the Cliffs of Doom. The fish are happy to take our AMI (Aquatic Macroinvertebrate) patterns; best action is at the head of the pool. We head down to the Cliffs of Insanity after a couple of hours, and get a few more, also at the head of the pool. Visibility seems to improve over the course of the day, to about three feet. Water temp = 48 degrees at 2:00 pm. For the day, I end up hooking 9, and landing 8; all rainbows, with most in the 18-20" range. Mark gets half a dozen, and Ken gets a couple, again all rainbows with the one exception being a big brown that gets away from Mark at the net. Linkage issue with the boat today (snaps at shift lever!) but we're able to shift with a pair of pliers. Pretty busy day on the river for a weekday; lots of fellow fishermen about, including one knucklehead in a pontoon boat who had no problem with pulling right in to a pool we were fishing. Pontoon boats, what a pain, lol. Best fishing was while the sun was shining, the fish seem to turn off when the clouds roll in mid-afternoon. Home by 7:45. Get a call from Wade on the way back when he spots our northbound rig; he's on his way to fish the Crow. Apparently big winds at Calgary after we leave, as is borne out by the weather stats. River flow today = approx 65 m3/s.
