Mark and I are on the road at about 8:00 a.m., and on the water at Policeman's Flats by about 10:30. It's a busy Good Friday on the Bow, and there are lots of fellow flyfishermen out and about. We do, however, manage to get in some quality time at a couple of quality spots, and the fishing is pretty similar to what it was ten days ago. As for numbers, we hook at least a couple dozen, and land better than half of those. All but one of the trout are Rainbows, with one Brown from below the Highwood. Mark lands a fat whitefish as well! We see a couple of fellows spin fishing from pontoon boats; no oars, just fins. Saves on the rowing requirements that way, I guess, and we did have to do a lot of rowing today into a mostly east wind at midday. We pull in to McKinnon Flats at about 7:30 p.m. (sunset is about 8:00). Most of the fish are fooled by the "San Juan Aquatic Macroinvertebrate" pattern. The river is quite low, with decent clarity. The Highwood is just a trickle of water coming out from under a big bank of ice. Speaking of ice, there is still a big ice shelf on the North bank at McKinnon's; not a problem for a pontoon boat or raft, but not good at all if you've got a heavy trailered boat.
