Pam and I are in Melbourne, Australia for a poker (Aussie Millions)/tennis (Australian Open) holiday, but I did bring along my trusty 5 wt. in the hopes that some flyfishing action could be found. As it turns out, there are only two flyfishing guides in Melbourne. One of them had recently retired, and the other (who ran his business under the interesting name "The Fly Prick") was booked up on the dates that I was available. There is also an outfit doing float trips on the Goulburn River a couple hours north of the city, but I wasn't able to hook up with them, either. Ah well, as a lark, I messed around with the Australian Grayling? Roach? along the banks of the Yarra in downtown Melbourne one morning. Got a couple of follows on a little Crazy Charlie type pattern, but no takers. Local literature suggests that the big trout fishing does indeed happen at nearby Tasmania; must plan a side trip there next time...
