Sunrise at Ft. Fisher
This was one of my first attempts taking a timed exposure using an 8 stop ND filter. This was actually the third morning that I attempted this shot - the first morning I arrived AFTER the sun rose, the second morning I was about 20 seconds too late. I was setting my tripod up and literally watched the colors drain from the sky in about 20 seconds. Pre-sunrise is the best!

Black Skimmer with Dinner
I like this shot because I finally got a sharp image of a bird in flight with a meal! The skimmer's head angle and the lighting are good, so I was pleased. Every time I visit North Carolina, I try and get a few images of these birds, and the last time I was there, the young were about 1 month old and the parents were busy feeding them.

Coming At Ya
Who can resist this little guy? I followed this group of goslings and their family for a few weeks, and watched them grow this Spring. They would hang around various areas along the banks or the Delaware River, and were fairly tame. I would visit fairly early in the mornings and try to get different angles of the goslings - I like this one because it shows how bold the young ones are - he really wanted to come to me and see what I was about!

Feral Cat near Boardwalk
James and I were walking the boardwalk in Atlantic City when he noticed this pretty cat waiting to have her picture taken. There are many 'wild' cats that live under and around the boardwalk, and they have people who come and regularly feed them. This shot was actually used in a campaign by "Alley Cats", a non-profit organization dedicated to the capturing, spaying, and releasing of feral cats. The posters of the image were seen in bus stops around Atlantic City, and on pamphlets in Vet's offices.

Sparrow
I took this in Wilmington, NC near the Cape Fear River. These little birds kept coming closer and closer to me as I shot. I think they heard the slight 'chirp' sound my camera made as I focused. This one liked to pose and even though it was near noon, the sun was low in the sky.

Ringing Rock
James and I have visited Ringing Rock State Park many times, but there are very few times when a substantial amount of water is flowing over the falls. We visited in late spring after a substantial rain and were lucky to get this view of the falls, when the leaves were just beginning to come out. This required a longer exposure, so I made sure James stayed still!

Laughing Gull
Taken in North Carolina, these gulls would continually soar overhead as I attempted to get a sharp image of them in-flight. Not an easy task, but I was pleased with this one. I like the lighting, pose and sharpness.

New Orleans Cemetery
Taken at Lafayette Cemetery in the Garden District pre-Katrina, this image was taken with my old Sony F-717, taken in 'nightshot' mode and equipped with certain filters to mimic an infrared photograph. This is actually a beautiful cemetery and I've visited often, but I wanted to evoke a spooky mood with the black and white and the infrared processing.

Steel Pier at Atlantic City
This image has also been tone mapped, and I was trying to go for an old post card type look with slightly muted colors. It was very cold this day, and there was something appealing about the empty pier and it's rides. I thought the sky was menacing, and the sun was shining brightly through a break in the clouds just as I took this.

Laughing Gull
Here's another soaring Laughing Gull that happened to come right towards the camera. It's not easy to maintain focus at an approaching subject, but usually these gulls are somewhat predictable and with a little luck, you can sometimes get a sharp image.

Curious Turtle
Taken at the Atlantic City Aquarium, this guy seemed to follow me as I moved, and appeared very curious of what I was doing. I like the black and white treatment, and also the selective focus

New Hope Steam Train
One of my favorite shots of the steam locomotive in New Hope. I just happened by mid-morning when the engine was firing up. The clouds were perfect, and I approached the train seconds before it left the station.

Free Bridge, New Hope
I've taken quite a few images of this bridge, linking New Hope, Pennsylvania and Lambertville, New Jersey. I performed some tone-mapping on this and I like the colors and tones. Even though it may appear isolated and barren now, the bridge is bustling with tourists on weekends, who make the journey between the two towns.

Ducks on the Canal
Better than snakes on a plane I suppose...
I love the composition of this image. I worked to bring out their reflections on the canal a bit, but there wasn't too much post processing involved. Ordinarily an image of birds or animals is more interesting if you are at their level and not shooting down, but in this case, I would not have gotten this perspective if not shot from above (plus I would have been in the canal!)

Early Morning Fog
This was one of my first shots of the Free Bridge connecting New Hope and Lambertville. It was foggy on the River and was just beginning to clear. Taken into the sun, I was lucky to have the sun just barely visible, and have the flying geese framed perfectly. There is also a swan swimming in the river, which I never noticed until I processed this.

Crossing the Delaware
Another bridge shot, this was also taken on an early foggy morning. I tried photographing many pedestrians and runners as they crossed, but I liked the positioning of the subjects here and the wetness of the pathway.

County Theater in Doylestown
One of our favorite theaters. In fact, we really don't go anywhere else. The County Theater regularly shows art-house and smaller movies you might not otherwise see. Taken later in the day before a show, the clouds and lighting were very pretty.

Cabanas along the beach in Atlantic City
We've made so many visits to Atlantic City, and there's always something interesting to photograph. These cabana houses made an interesting shot with their pastel colors and the beautiful sky an sand.

Ralph Stover State Park
This is a walking bridge over the creek in Ralph Stover State Park.

Old Train Engine, New Hope
Taken early morning at the back of the train station in New Hope, this old engine was out on the tracks. The sky was interesting and the lighting was good for this shot.

James on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale
The skies in Ft. Lauderdale are something else, especially as the sun comes up. James is a very patient model, and I tried tone mapping this to bring out more detail in the shadows.

Fonthill
One of my favorite shots of Fonthill. Taken early morning, a snow shower appeared about 45 minutes after this was taken.
