I have one of these little fellas (the kids say he's "adorable") and he has been trying for a week now, non-stop, to get in our front window. He rests for a while, then flutters up against the window as long as he can, and then rests and does it again. He has spent hours doing so....anyone know why? I fear he is using up his energy for nothing. He has no fear of us at the window, so we get in incredible close up of him, so that's cool. Any ideas?

I have them in Hillier, Ontario near Wellington. There are about 6 I think. They're eating regular bird seed mix from a gazeebo feeder and two hanging ones. They're funny and seem to play with each other.

Hi Kevin,
Those are great shots you have taken over the years. This year in my backyard I have so many Goldfinch birds and also the ones with the color orange red which I don't know the name of them yet but they are the same size has the Goldfinch. I have just recently put up a bird feeder for them with Nyjer seed in it and it only took two days for them to start feeding from it. And now this morning I will be going out looking for a rustic bird bath. I have been taking a few pictures so far of them with my small Sony camera. Will these birds keep coming back to the same area every year? Cause by next year I plan on having a Canon SX30 IS . Have you ever tried that camera ? If yes, what do you think of it?
Keep taking those great shots,
Lorraine

Interesting story Melissa, thanks for sharing. If you can you should get your grandmother a finch feeder and some nyjer seed to attract more of these birds. Funny how the bird pecks at the window. Thank you for visiting my gallery :)
