The photos in this gallery are the results of two years of work that I have done on Changi Point and Pulau Ubin. Changi Point is at the eastern tip of Singapore. It has one of the smallest residential area in Singapore in the shape of Changi Village, well known for its good food and old shops. From Changi Village, one need to cross the bridge at Changi Creek to Changi Beach. Changi Beach is one of the main beaches of Singapore and it is very popular for family outings and kayakers. During WWII, it was the site of massacre of Chinese males by Japanese soldiers. At Changi Point, there is a jetty that one could take a bum boat to Pulau Ubin. Pulau Ubin is the last major rural community of Singapore. In the late 19th Century to the late 20th Century, it is the main granite quarry of Singapore. Up to the early 1980s, Pulau Ubin still had a community that was large enough to have a Primary school and community centre. Since 1990, the community population steadily decline with the closure of the quarries and farms. Today, it has not more than 50 families left catering to the weekend tourist trade in the form of bicycle rental, food and beverage. Pulau Ubin has also a relatively unknown spiritual side in the form of numerous temples and shrines. It even has a shrine to a German girl who reportedly died during WWI when the British authorities attempted to intern her and her family. The photos are arranged in such a way that the viewers are brought through the logical sequence of the sights of Changi Point and Pulau Ubin in the form of a virtual tour.
