ABOARD THE DREDGE R.N. WEEKS
NAVARRE BEACH RESTORATION PROJECT
NAVARRE BEACH, FLORIDA

The photos in this gallery are of the dredge R.N. Weeks that were taken by me on October 25, 2006 in the Gulf of Mexico just off Navarre Beach, Florida. The dredge R.N. Weeks and dredge B.E. Lindholm were both involved in the Navarre Beach Restoration Project. The R.N. Weeks and B.E. Lindholm are owned operated by Weeks Marine, Inc. who own a fleet of dredge ships and land operating equipment. Weeks Marine is the contractor for the Navarre Beach Restoration Project.

I would like to thank Peter Ravella with Coastal Technology, the consultant for Santa Rosa County regarding the Navarre Beach Restoration Project in coordinating this photo event. I would especially like to thank Tim Weckwerth, who made all the final arrangements to allow me to come aboard the R.N. Weeks. And I would like to thank Roger Blaylock the Engineer for Santa Rosa County, who helped in making it all happen.

As I came aboard the R.N. Weeks Captain Bob McCabe was the first person to greet me. Captain McCabe really rolled out the red carpet for my photo shoot. He personally gave me a one hour plus guided tour of the entire ship from top to bottom. Captain McCabe has extremely helpful in pointing out areas that I might be interested in shooting. You could tell that Captain McCabe was proud of his Ship and crew. Pete Zimmerman the Chief Engineer was very friendly and helpful too about the photos I might shoot. The R.N. Weeks has a crew of about 15 people 24/7 and it is not unusual to have two to four observers on board.

The thing that impressed me the most about the R.N. Weeks was how huge the ship was and how clean it was. I have viewed the R.N. Weeks over the past seven months, but being on board gave me a totally different perspective. The photos at the end of the gallery are of the bridge, which reminded me of a Star Wars movie. Thanks to Weeks Marine, Navarre Beach has a beautiful new beach. Your comments below are welcomed.

Hi, we live on Singer Island and have watched your dredges for some time now. What is the size of the dredge unit as it goes by and the depth it digs/creats?? paulneaw@gmail.com Also tried to call on radio. What channel on VHF?? Paul

I worked on the RN for 13 years as welder/AB/QMED.A Gr8 crew to work with. I kinda miss that old dredge from time to time I am glad you still have these photos up, I remember when you were out there taking photos.I am the one on the bow throwing the hook and working the wildcat,I have a ponytail.If anyone from the dredge reads this be safe out there fellas.

It's been dredging off the coast of Singer Island, Florida for the past couple of days and heading back north to dump the sand.

Nice photos! I visited Bethany Beach, Delaware to do a story on the dredging project there for North American Quarry News. I got some great shots of the dredge at sea, and some up-close photos of sand being discharged. I also have quite a few photos of the beach as it is being restored. Because some east coast beaches were former rifle ranges, there was a basket on the discharge end of the pipe to catch ordnance.

RN WEEKS has been involved in a beach-restoration at Sandbridge (Virginia Beach) VA for the last month. She has been visible on my AIS displaying MMSI 303390000 call sign WBV3250, registrered in Alaska. On AIS she displays a destination of Charleston but has been in the same 2-3 mile area just offshore of Virginia Beach all month. Nice to see your photo album. ** As I was writing this, RN Weeks began making 10.3kts for sea, offshore about 2.5 miles to her sand-dredging area, Then the slow (1-3kt) scooping/dredge pattern back in toward shore, and repeat. . I am a nature and wildlife photographer in Florida. I was not involved in taking any photos of the beach nourishment at Surf City, NJ. Weeks Marine was the contractor for the Navarre Beach Restoration Project in Florida that was completed in November 2006. Also, Weeks Marine was the contractor for the beach nourishment at Surf City, NJ that was completed on February 9, 2007. In addition Weeks Marine was the contractor for beach nourishment in 2006 at Pensacola Beach, FL and Panama City, FL.

Kenny, We always expect great pictures from you, and you never disappoint. Your voyage on the Weeks must have been a fun trip. We can hardly wait to see the "New and improved" beach for ourselves. We'll arrive Dec. 1
