Juan Sebastián de Elcano, the world’s third largest tall Spanish ship arrived at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Port of Pensacola to help commemorate Pensacola’s 450 anniversary and kickoff the 60th annual Fiesta of Five Flags celebration. Pensacola was settled in 1559 by Spanish explorers, and the tall ship will represent this journey and honor the community’s Spanish heritage. The photos in this gallery I shot on June 9 as the Elcano departed port of Pensacola, and made its way through Pensacola Bay, passed by historic Fort Pickens, and raised its sails as the ship passed through Pensacola Pass and then sailed into the Gulf of Mexico.
I will add about 50 photos to this gallery within the next few days so come back and visit this gallery soon.
