Shirakawa-go Village

Shiragawa-go is a village of ancient thatched-roof houses in alpine Japan that we visited on the way between Takayama and Kanazawa. These houses were originally built to conserve and distribute heat to aid in the cultivation of silk worms using mulberry leaves.
