Palermo

Palermo is a city of 800,000 and the capital of Sicily. It has been the seat of power since Sicily was ruled by Norman kings around 1100 A.D. It is the home of a number of sumptuous Norman-Arab churches with fabulous mosaics and exuberant Renaissance churches with remarkable stucco decorations.

A sidelight of Sicilian culture is a highly developed puppet theater tradition.
