We stayed at the Hotel zum Burgwirt in Deggendorf for the first two days (actually in the small village of Nattenberg on the edge of Deggendorf). From there we did an excursion to Plattling on the Isar River. On the hill behind the hotel are the remains of an old fort tracing back to when the Danube was the northeastern boundary of the Roman empire.
In Plattling we visited the medieval St. Jacobs church, a Romanesque church that was a waystop on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain in the late Middle Ages.
