Bratislava is the present day capital of Slovakia, but for 270 years after the Ottoman capture of Budapest, Bratislava was the royal seat of the Hungarian kings. All kings and queens of Hungary were crowned in Bratislava's St. Martin's cathedral between 1563 and 1830. We were in Bratislava on the May Day weekend when the city was filled with many Slovak and Hungarian visitors. There were concerts in the squares and the day was capped with an impressive display of fireworks at the river's edge.
